Oat milk is a dairy-free milk alternative made by soaking oats, fresh-cut or rolled, in water before straining them to separate the milk from the oats. Plant-based milk alternatives such as almond milk, hemp milk, rice milk, and soy milk are rising in popularity, but perhaps none are more nutritious or delicious than oat milk.
Compared to nuts, soy, and other plant-based sources of milk, oats absorb water exceptionally well. When blended, more of the oat’s nutritional value, fibre, and flavour are absorbed in the milk, giving oat milk a creamier texture, a sweeter taste, and healthier benefits.
Oat milk is also an excellent choice for anyone who has special dietary needs. It is gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan-friendly, and doesn’t contain any allergens such as lactose, nuts, soy, or gluten found in other plant-based dairy alternatives such as soy milk and almond milk. Oat milk is also rich in beta-glucans, a form of soluble fibre that has many heart health benefits.
